Home Groups

Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20, NLT)

The focus of the Bible verses above is to make disciples! Here at CLC our Mission is "To make disciples who love God, love others, and serve the world." "Disciples" translates to followers or students of Jesus. How does one become a disciple of Jesus? We learn from Jesus, live like Jesus and do what Jesus did. Being involved in a HOME group is taking a step on the journey to becoming a disciple. The best part about joining a HOME Group? You get to take that journey with others, in community. Studying God's word, praying for and praying with others, encouraging, celebrating, knowing and spurring one another on in life. Choose a Home Group that fits you! If you cannot find a group that meets your needs, please connect with Pastor Eric@christianlayman.org and he can help!

Alameda with Will & Debbie

7:00-8:30pm 2 Fridays/mo.

Our Alameda HG includes singles, couples, and families with both young and older children. We meet the 1st and 3rd Fridays of each month from 7:00-8:30pm. Our meetings consist of studying the Word, sharing and praying for one another. In the past we have done inductive Bible studies, topical studies of interest/relevance, or have followed with the church’s sermon series. We look forward to continue to grow in our walk with the Lord as well as serving in our communities.

Berkeley/El Cerrito with Priscilla & Jodie

6:45pm-9:00pm 2 Fridays/month

We are a diverse mix of singles & couples with kids, introverts & extroverts, ministry workers & seekers, but one thing we all have in common is the desire to grow in our faith and learn from each other. We have some in depth discussions, we delve into the Bible, we laugh a lot and have awesome snacks and Christmas parties too! We normally take a break in June, July and August then we restart in September!

Berkeley/Oakland/Alameda with Arjun & Frank

6:30 - 9:00 pm 2x a month every other Thursday

We want to know and serve one another -- sharpening and spurring each other on. Together we want to depend on the Lord prayerfully, have our foundation in knowing and drawing strength from the Gospel, and support each other towards putting our faith into action.

We spend time studying the Bible together, praying for and keeping one other accountable. As best as possible, we try to do life together!!

EC/Berkeley Young Families with David & Wendy

2nd & 4th Saturdays each month

The El Cerrito/Berkeley Young Families HG aims to live life together. Our hope is to grow in community through Bible study, prayer, fellowship, service, and food. Our group consists primarily of families with young children, but we also have a mix of singles, couples with older kids, and couples without children. We welcome all ages and life stages! We generally meet the second and fourth Saturdays, alternating between an evening Zoom Bible study and a family friendly group activity.

Oakland Hills with Diana & Yan

7:00pm-9:00 pm Wednesdays

We are a diverse mix of singles and couples (with and without kids). We live in different parts of the East Bay, from Alameda to Richmond. We can all fondly reminisce about good 80s/90s music and fads, to give you a sense of our age group. Many of us are/have been very active in CLC’s various ministries.

We love to fellowship and eat together! Our group meets every Wednesday in the Oakland Hills. The evening starts off with dinner, and we take turns providing food for the entire group. For the second hour, we typically alternate between a week of study and a week of sharing/prayer.

Our group strives to build a strong community and a deeper knowledge of God. Because we meet on such a regular basis, there’s a wonderful opportunity to really share and experience life with each other, as well as build upon our relationship with God through strong teaching. An added bonus: when we enjoy a great meal prepared by someone else, we truly feel blessed!

Orinda with Darlet & Patrick

2 Fridays/month

The Orinda HG is a family home group mainly with high school age kids and their parents. We've been on a bit of a sabbatical, but intend to meet two Fridays a month. Home group is a time to break bread (we like food), have a short teaching time and prayer. We are God-seeking folks who struggle together through life stages such as aging parents, teenage issues, work dilemmas and marital topics. In trying to apply God's teachings to our lives we are super casual, full of mistakes and non-judgmental. Praise God!

Young @ Heart with Pastor Ben, Julie & Jerry

12:30pm - 3:00pm 2 Sundays/month

Our home group meets the first 2 Sundays each month for study, fellowship and a potluck. We meet at the church. All are welcome!
